David Mohammed and Udara Madubhashana announced that the Budgie Desktop Environment is now an official Ubuntu flavor.
After two successful major releases, budgie-remix was finally accepted as an official Ubuntu flavor when the four members of Canonical's technical board voted in favor. There were no negative votes or abstentions. So the new flavor of Ubuntu is available for everyone and is called Ubuntu Budgie.
What is Ubuntu Budgie (former budgie-remix)?
Of course it will be a Ubuntu-based distribution that uses Buddie as a default workspace. It has the same level of quality and the same packages as any other official Ubuntu flavor, but it is designed to be lightweight, user-friendly, simple and fully customizable. The BUDGIE interface is based on and uses the latest GNOME technologies.
After the important announcement, the developers of budgie-remix will have a lot of work as only the rebranding of the name "budgie-remix" on Ubuntu Budgie requires working hours.
Let's mention for those who do not know that the Wudgie interface is used by Solus distribution.
The developers of Ubuntu Budgie are in constant talks with its maintainer Project Solus Ikey Doherty to ensure effective and positive collaboration between the two teams.
The reason is obvious: any improvement that comes from Ubuntu developers will also be released for users of the Solus distribution or users of other distributions using Budgie as an interface.
Of course, the improvements from the developers of the Solus distribution will be added to the desktop of Ubuntu. Why; It is Open Source and this is how it works…
