The aim of the program is acquisition δυνατότητας προβολής πληροφοριών, δεδομένων ακόμη και εικόνων σε φυσικά μεγέθη, που θα προέρχονται από computer, in a user's field of view.
The US Navy's latest research program isn't about a cutting-edge weapon technologys. Following the "tech fad", the US Navy has partnered with the company Vuzix to develop smart glasses technology to be used in naval applications.
In particular, Vuzix, based in Rochester, New York, won an initial 75.000 dollar contract and an additional US dollar 680.000 dollar grant from the US Office of Marine Research to develop Google Glass optics that can be placed in classic spectacle frames.
The aim of the program is to gain the ability to view information, data and even images in physical formats that come from a computer in a user's field of view.
Vuzix will work with Six15 Technologies, which specializes in the production of head-up displays, military specifications, to incorporate the technology into the new "smart glasses".
The program will move in two phases. The first phase includes the development of the prototypes, while the second phase will include testing in the open field and under real conditions. The technology developed for the new smart glasses will be used by the US Navy to improve personnel training and simulationof various conditions. The US Navy believes that by using such methods, it will succeed in radically changing the way personnel are trained.
However, it is a difficult task since the final product should be handy and can be worn for several hours of the day, just like the sunglasses. This is a normal requirement, as it should not be overlooked that Vuzix glasses may have to be worn even in combat situations.
Please note that the US Navy is not the only government agency in the United States to consider the possibility of using smart goggles. Just a few weeks ago, the New York Police took over and tested, in real life, the notorious Google Glass.
