One millionfaceof Vodafone UK said that the company was breached by hackers who managed to gain access to the personal data of about 2.000 of their customers. Let's see what exactly happened:
The hack reportedly took place during last weekteams, and Vodafone cites a third company that handles their data as the cause of the problem.
"This incident came from criminals who used email addresses and passwords obtained from an unknown source other than Vodafone." states the company statement.
"Vodafone systems have not been compromised in any way."
Good one huh; (The way annoyed them, they probably consider hacking only his case SQL Injection. The result counts gentlemen.).
According to an internal survey, hackers have acquired data including customer names, cell phone numbers, bank codes, and the last four digits of their bank accounts.
The number of people affected by the hack seems to reach 1.827. The company added that there is no evidence of stolen credit or debit card details.
Vodafone also reports that its leaked customer accounts have been directly blocked to prevent fraud and misuse of data. This practically means that the company directly contacted victims, banks, and as reported by the company and the law enforcement authorities.
Direct communication with all concerned in such cases is necessary as it may (perhaps) prevent malicious acts from criminals. It depends, of course, on how direct communication is, and when hack was discovered.
