More than 480 millions of mobile VPN apps have been downloaded from the official Stores app for Android and iOS devices in the past 12 months, according to a Top10VPN publication.
This number is 54% higher than last year, which recorded 311 million downloads.
Of the 480 million downloads, 75% were downloads of VPN apps for Android (358,3 millions) while 121,9 downloaded millions of VPN apps for iOS, which is not surprising as Android has a much larger number of users.
“Downloads were higher in Asia Pacific (APAC), a region hit by political and social unrest over the past 12 months. There were 188 million app downloads, which was more than double the previous year's total," said Simon Migliano, head of researchs in Top10VPN.

The country that topped the charts λήψηs, according to Migliano, was Indonesia after Indonesians downloaded more 75,5 million mobile VPN apps. The increase in downloads reached 111% compared to the previous year.
Next is the US (75,6 million) and India (57 million), two countries with too many internet users, although their political climate is stable.
Next are Jordan (387%), Kazakhstan (210%), Algeria (205%) and Vietnam (140%). These countries are experiencing political turmoil.
According to Publication of Top10VPN, 84,3% of the 480 million downloads involved free VPN applications.
The most downloaded apps, according to data from the Android and iOS app stores, were TurboVPN (51,3 million), hotspot Shield (42,8 million) and Betternet (29,9 million).
In the next three years we will reach 1 billion mobile VPN app downloads, not counting downloads from China. It is clear that internet users around the world are trying to restore internet freedoms that are constantly eroding.
