Today we released the new WebTorrent Desktop, offering a lightweight yet feature-rich torrent client for streaming into a Windows, Linux and Mac.
Multimedia content sharing is mostly done using an application like uTorrent, Vuze, qBitTorrent or Transmission, but thanks to the Stanford University Graduate Aboukhadijeh University's graduate, there is another way.
WebTorrent instead of using standalone applications such as those listed above allows you to share files directly from your browser without having to install any additional software.
"WebTorrent is the first torrent client developed for the web. It is written entirely in JavaScript and uses WebRTC for peer-to-peer transfers. No need to install the plugin on the Browser, no extension or installation required,” Feross told Torrentfreak.
WebTorrent drew the attention of Netflix who came into contact with Feross to discuss his technology, which could be used extensively as a video streaming service, reducing bandwidth consumption.
WebTorrent Desktop (WDT) is the new creation of Feross. WDT provides an extremely smooth video streaming experience, just like any other torrent client, with a clean and simple interface.
