Η Western Digital presented in the technology exhibition Computex 2014 a hard drive connected to the motherboard via PCI Express.
Using the protocol SATA Express, WD connected a hard drive to SATA Express interface in PCI Express door of the parent.
The SATA Express communication protocol, supported by motherboards with chipset of the 9 series such as Intel Z97.
This new protocol achieves speeds greater than SATA III at 6Gb / s, while Asus has achieved through SRIS to trigger performance in 800MB / s reading data.
What WD is doing is exploitation of the PCI Express sockets of motherboards that usually stay unexploited on a PC, while the need for storage space is a given.
