Mark Zuckerberg had repeatedly stated that the application WhatsApp θα φτάσει το ένα billion users. By all accounts, the mobile messaging service is officially halfway there.
WhatsApp announced on Tuesday that 500 has reached millions of active users five years after the launch of the service.
“In recent months, we have been growing faster in countries such as Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia. Our users are uploading more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos every day,” the WhatsApp team said in a blog post.
Facebook reached the milestone of 500 million users in July 2010 and it took a little over six years from the date the social network was launched. At this rate, WhatsApp should reach one billion users faster than Facebook did.
Meanwhile the Federal Trade Commission approved the agreement exmarket of the company from Facebook earlier this month. Of course, the approval from the international regulatory authorities is still pending.
