WhatsApp is also in the works. Apple's battle with the FBI is being watched closely by all the smartphone communications companies as the concern exists infringementof security by each government. This, at least, is the optimistic scenario, as Snowden's revelations indicate that the secret services is behind every communication at Internet.
One of the companies affected by these issues in the past, WhatsApp is planning to provide end-to-end encryption for voice calls and group conversations.
According to a publication in The Guardian, an official WhatsApp announcement is expected soon, with which the company will confirm security improvements to its instant messaging service.
WhatsApp has already added encryption of messages to Android and iOS devices, but in the next few weeks will extend end-to-end voice and group conversations.
The same publication points out that WhatsApp's encryption will be based on the code developed by a famous evangelist protectionof privacy, Moxie Marlinspike.
This specific encryption code has been tested many times by external security experts, and seems to fit the needs of WhatsApp.
The founder of the company, Jan Koum, always said that users should expect security to be a given, not a bonus.
