The WikiLeaks today released copies of malicious software FinFisher used by various governments around the world to spy on individuals.
FinFisher software is not new – it exists in the surveillance software market, and it gains access to victim systems using common techniques malware. It compromises desktop computers, and is used to spy on mobile communications from Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices.
"The FinFisher continues to operate unsteadily. In Germany they are sold as malicious surveillance software in some of the most oppressive regimes in the world. The Merkel government pretends to be concerned about privacy, but their actions say otherwise, ”says Editor-in-Chief Julian Assange of WikiLeaks.
Leaving malware available to anyone around the world is intended to help everyone develop the appropriate tools to protect against malware. Its goal is also to help identify the malware management and control centers.
The software is developed by a German company which, until the end of last year, he was part of Gamma Group International from the United Kingdom. According to WikiLeaks, the software is mostly used against "journalists, activists and politicians who disagree".
