Η wikipedia πρόσθεσε μια χρήσιμη νέα λειτουργία: προεπισκοπήσεις σελίδων ή page previews. Το Ίδρυμα Wikimedia αναφέρει ότι είναι “μία από τις μεγαλύτερες αλλαγές της Wikipedia που έγινε τα τελευταία χρόνια” και παρέχει στους αναγνώστες ένα emerging window that lists some of the text of the article.
So any reading σελίδαs on Wikipedia can turn into a never-ending journey that can take you to places you didn't expect. This exploration can be a fun, and informative adventure, but it can also be distracting, especially if the article you're clicking on isn't really useful.
See the image below:
New page previews show an image and some suggestions that briefly describe the article when you hover your mouse over the link. So you can decide if you should click on the link or not. Clicking on the popup window will take you to that article, and if you move your mouse, it will disappear.
Wikimedia reports that it conducted extensive testing during development of the new feature and found that most users they didn't turn it off. He also found that “each reader interacted with the content more pages while navigating the site” and that overall pageviews dropped noticeably.
This seems to mean that users find useful information from pop-up windows, and so they visit fewer pages.
The new feature seems to work in Greek version of the online encyclopedia.
