Windows 10 Vanadium: Traditionally, Microsoft uses codenames for the versions of Windows it develops. So every version of Windows 10 that has been released to date has its own password name.
The original version for example was released as "Threshold." The next five releases were codenamed "Redstone."
Since then, Redstone has changed.
For the story below, there are all Windows 10 code names:
Threshold 1: Windows 10 / 1507
Threshold 2: Windows 10 November Update / 1511
Redstone 1: Windows 10 Anniversary Update / 1607
Redstone 2: Windows 10 Creators Update/1703
Redstone 3: Windows 10 Fall Creators Update / 1709
Redstone 4: Windows 10 April 2018 Update / 1803
Redstone 5: Windows 10 October 2018 Update / 1809
19H1: Windows 10 April 2019 Update / 1903 or Windows 10 Vanadium
As you may already know, the upcoming release of Windows 10 to be released in the first half of next year is codenamed 19H1. This release will be released publicly, probably in April 2019.
The information that were "leaked" today state that the post-19H1 version will be codenamed "Vanadium". Vanadium is one chemical element which has the 23 atomic number.
So it looks like Microsoft will use real and fictitious names of chemical elements as Windows code names. This is probably due to the fact that engineering of Windows has been moved to the Azure team, which uses the same naming system.
