Microsoft is finally making it easy change of the default program tours in Windows 11. A new update (KB5011563) started rolling out this week allows Windows 11 users to change their default browser with one click.
The new one-click browser switching method is available for all Windows 11 users.
Initially, Windows 11 was released without making it easy to switch between the default browsers, which was very simple in Windows 10.
Microsoft was forcing its users Windows 11 to change too many file extensions or protocol operators for HTTP, HTTPS, .HTML, and .HTM to eventually switch browsers.
The company of course defended its decision to make it more difficult to switch between Windows 11 defaults, but competing browser makers such as Mozilla, Brave, and even Chrome criticized Microsoft's approach.
At last update of Windows 11, from the default apps section, you can simply search for the browser you are interested in. Then a button appears asking if you want to set it as the default. The whole process is done with a single click, nothing to do with the way the company used before.
Microsoft seems to have listened to the feedback and criticism it received on the changes it made to Windows 11. The company claims it continues to improve Windows 11 every month, with updates like this or bigger with Android apps and taskbar improvements.
Microsoft now plans to present in detail all the changes in Windows 11 at an event on April 5.
