What does WinRAR do?

WinRAR is a very lightweight, flexible and easy-to-use archive utility that can unpair and compress both RAR and ZIP. WinRAR decompression supports many file formats. Available in 32 and 64bit.

Installing WinRAR will not bring you any difficulty, and it will be completed almost immediately. The only point where you will stop asking for your choices is when you have to decide which files the program can process.

You can choose from the following formats: CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, Z and 7-Zip. These files can be unpacked by the application. WinRAR can only compress data in RAR or ZIP format.

Using WinRAR, a professional tool, is very simple, even for inexperienced users. By right-clicking on the file you wish to compress or unpack, you are given all the options and can be easily executed with one click. Besides, there is also the Wizard option if you run the program from your desktop icon. It will give you all the necessary options to edit your files.

According to WinRAR developers, the latest version of the program exploits multi-core system processors (if any) to achieve faster compression rates, depending on the hardware you use.

The WinRAR 5.0 version has the ability to create larger dictionaries that reach 1 GB in 64 bit versions of WinRAR, which results in higher file compression.

Other new interesting features brought by WinRAR 5.0 Beta 1 is the new recording function for recovering damaged files based on Reed-Solomon error correcting codes. The new feature makes it possible to recover damaged files (download with bad connection eg), much stronger. In test scenarios of a damaged 1GB file, with a 10% recovery record and an average damage size of 32KB, WinRAR was able to repair nine times more damage than the previous version.

From version version WinRAR 5.0 has been boosted with BLAKE2sp hash used as checksum files. By adding BLAKE2, one can definitely find whether 2 or above, files are different, or CRC32 values, and if two different files can share the same value. In addition, if CRC32 has a small value, there is a small chance that damaged files will not be detected, which can not happen with BLAKE2.

5.01 version

1. New archival form.

• You can use the normal application option to create files or through the command line to create files
  RAR 5.0. Earlier versions of WinRAR will not be able to unpack files that are compressed with RAR 5.0.

2. Changes to the compression algorithm of RAR 5.0:

• The maximum compression dictionary size was increased up to 1 GB in the version of 64 bit WinRAR. The 32 bit version of the application can use a dictionary up to 256 MB when creating a file. Both versions of the 32 bit and 64 bit can unpack files of any dictionary size.
• The default dictionary size for RAR 5.0 on 32 MB usually results in a higher compression ratio but slower than RAR in 4 versions.
• The syntax of the -md switch has been modified to support larger dictionaries. The addition of "k", "m" and "g" determine the size in kilo -, mega - and gigabytes. For example - md64m for 64 MB dictionary. If you do not use modifiers, the program uses megabytes
• The RAR 5.0 format includes executable Intel IA-32 files and delta compression algorithms, while ta RAR 4x text, audio, true color and Itanium algorithms and are no longer supported. The algorithms removed were not effective for modern data types.

3. Changes to the format of RAR 5.0 files:

Errors corrected in 5.0.1 Final:

• When you open RAR 5.0 files with encrypted filenames, WinRAR could give you the wrong message that the password is incorrect. New encryption, very strong compression and more security. Completely new kernel structure for better compression results in new files and of course for better collaboration with new hardware. Many fixes!

Negatively

Older versions do not open 5 version files and should be compressed by the user to use them. As with any compression tool, the use of system resources is high enough. Although the 5 version is much better than 4, the system resources it uses will always fit for improvements.
