WIRE 2014 Conference of the Greek EU Presidency, organized by the National Documentation Center and the European Commission, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Research and Technology
The International Conference “Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE V) WIRE 2014” (www.wire2014.eu), the most important European dialogue forum for Regional Strategies, Innovation & Development, takes place in Athens (Aigli Zappeiou) on 12 and 13 June 2014. The Conference WIRE 2014 (Hebteam of Innovative Regions in Europe) is organized by the National Documentation Center (EKT) and the European Commission, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, within the framework of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, in the presence of the European Commission Commissioner for themeResearch, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.
The conference, held for the fifth consecutive year, has been established as the public debate on new regional development policies and programs. For the year 2014 coincides with the launch of the European Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program and the new European Structural and Investment Funds, and highlights tools and good practices for the effective implementation of Intelligent Strategies of the Regions of Europe.
The conference covers the following thematic areas:
a) European Regional Development Fund for 2014-2020: From design to effective implementation of the Smart Specialization Strategy - Regional Policies for Competitive Enterprises - Research & Entrepreneurship in European Territorial Cooperation,
b) Scientific Excellence and Exploitation of Knowledge for Regional Development: Public Open Data for Regional Innovation - Indicators & Tools for the Evaluation of Regional Strategies - Reuse of Knowledge in Intelligent Specialization Strategies and Entrepreneurship.
High-level executives of the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the World Bank, as well as managers of Structural Funds and Operational Programs, regional associations, local authorities, development agencies, technology transfer organizations, stakeholders involved in the mapping of indicators for research, researchers, entrepreneurs, business links, clusters, etc.
The Conference highlights scientific excellence and the re-use of knowledge as a means of unlocking the potential for innovation in the regions and the need for a systematic mapping of research action through indicators for effective governance.
At the same time, it presents good practices for the use of policies / programs aimed at reducing the innovation gap in Europe's regions, aligning national and European strategies, coordinating research and cohesion policies. Proposals will also be published to re-use knowledge, aiming at scientifically documented regional innovation strategies.
