Yahoo Answers, one of the longest running online Q&A platforms in the history of the Internet, closes on May 4.
This will be the day that the Yahoo Answers site will start redirecting to the Yahoo homepage and all platform files will obviously cease to exist.
The platform has been operating since 2005.
Yahoo, which is now a member of Verizon Media Group after selling the company for almost 5 billionmillions dollars in 2017, announced the change at the top of the homepage of the Yahoo Answers platform. The message links to an FAQ, which details the timeline for the shutdown.
From April 20, the platform will no longer accept new submissions, he says the FAQ.
The users they will also have until June 30 to claim their data because after that date it will no longer be accessible.
That data includes "all user-generated content, including the Question List, Answer List, and any images," says Yahoo, but "you will not be able to download content, questions, or answers from other users."
A message sent to active members of Yahoo Answers provides a little more detail about why the company is shutting down the platform. In these reasons he states that it has "become less popular over the years" and that they have decided to "focus on products that serve better our members".
