Η Yahoo has just announced that files moved between company data centers are now fully encrypted by 31 March.
The announcement comes just a few weeks after Google announced that it also encrypted all the Gmail data being trafficked to its server. Both companies appear to be reacting to the reports of the documents leaked by Edward Snowden and concern the NSA's attempts to break the links between their data centers, a place where communications were encrypted.
Yahoo since the outbreak of the US intelligence scandal has added more and more security levels.
For example, in January, the company made browsing safer by adding HTTPS by default. Last month, the company allowed encryption of mail between servers from other email providers that support the SMTPTLS standard.
Searchs through the company home page are now using HTTPS encryption.
The company has implemented TLS 1.2, Perfect Forward Secrecy and 2048-bit RSA key on its home page, Mail and Digital Journals. All Yahoo sites will grow to this standard in the coming months.
In addition, the company seems to be preparing for changes to its Messenger, which will release an encrypted version in the coming months.
As all show, all major technology companies have begun to take care of end-user security. But we can not know if all this is to make their image, which has been cracked long enough after Snowden's revelations, or they really do it for the safety of people using their services.
