Reuters: Consumer and children's rights groups have asked the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate Google's new app-service, YouTube kids.
The organizations argue that Google's new app targets young audiences with ads served within its content σελίδαs-application.
The new YouTube Kids service first launched in February and features branded channels run by companies such as McDonalds and Fisher-Price.
It features child-friendly content, such as cartoons, but also uses ads with the same characters - a practice banned on US cable television by the Federal Communications Commission.
Critics of Google's new service also argue that YouTube doesn't report when other users' content, such as unboxings video new games, sponsored by companies and shown for advertising purposes.
The children 's defense teams have all submitted their comments to American Federal Trade Commission (FTC) today asking to investigate the issue further.
A YouTube spokesman told Reuters:
"We have worked with many child advocacy groups during its development YouTube Kids and we are always open to any feedback on ways to improve the application. The signatories of this letter did not contact us directly and we disagree with their allegations. "
The strange, of course, would be to agree. Really would you like to display promotional content on what your kids are seeing?
Let us mention that in Greece the issue is not unknown as all TV channels are running commercials unobstructed in the children's show zones.
