Zorin OS 12 is a Linux-based open source operating system. According with a tweet of the development team, the operating system has surpassed half a million downloads.
Zorin OS 12 was released last year on November 18 and is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus). The development team refers to it as "the biggest release ever" and introduced a whole new experience to Zorin Desktop that promises to make your PC more powerful and more enjoyable to use.
In the four months since its release, Zorin OS 12 has been downloaded over half a million times from its official website, according to the development team, which reports that over 60% of downloads are from users Windows and Macs that wanted to switch to an open source, Linux-based operating system.
"Exactly 4 months after its release, we are excited to announce that Zorin OS 12 has been downloaded more than 500.000 times," the statement said.
"We are also pleased to announce that over 60% of these downloads came from Windows and MacOS users, reflecting the success of our mission to bring the power of Linux to people who have never had access to it before.”
Let us mention that a first version Zorin OS 12 Lite will be released within the next few weeks. It should also be mentioned that this distro is very good to start exploring the Linux platform, but it is far from what I consider Linux.
So we can recommend distributing to those who are thinking of trying Linux, learning a few things, and then moving to another distribution that takes most of the Linux philosophy and not that of Windows.
