Big day for Ubuntu friends as the Canonical has just released the final version of the Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak operating system for desktop, server, and cloud computing.
Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) has been in development for the past six months, but today, October 13, 2016, it is now officially available for download in its repositories companys. New functional έρχεται για όλους όσους θέλουν να χρησιμοποιούν τις τελευταίες εκδόσεις και τεχνολογίες λογισμικού και GNU/Linux στους προσωπικούς τους υπολογιστές, ή στο σύννεφο.
The most exciting feature of the new Ubuntu 16.10 is the Linux kernel 4.8, which brings support for the latest hardware on the market, but also contains some updates that are mostly based on the GNOME 3.20 Stack.
So some of the pre-installed applications are based on the latest GNOME 3.22 Stack, except for the Nautilus file manager, which remains in the 3.20.3 version. The LibreOffice suite comes in the 5.2 and Mozilla Firefox versions of 49.0.
Also, the new Ubuntu 16.10 also features an experimental Unity 8 session, which is installed by default and is accessible through the login manager. Canonical has added Unity 8 mostly for trial purposes, although it knows it will not work on all computers.
Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak will be supported for nine months, by July of 2017, the end date of the distribution. From this date on, it will no longer receive software and security updates, which means you will need to upgrade to the next version of Ubuntu, or use the stable version of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus.
Ubuntu hardliners can download the new Ubuntu 16.10 with Linux kernel 4.8 in Desktop, Server and Cloud versions by the end of the post.
