The hackers of the year that passed us

2015 was the year of hackers. Those who watched the history of the past year would have noticed that the blows that 2015 saw was unprecedented.

Until today, we considered credit card theft to be the worst thing that could happen. 2015 will prove to us that we need to review our opinions. hackers

Why

The year started with the breaking of the of Sony Pictures.

The hackers, after gaining what they had and did not have the company's systems, threatened with bombs the cinemas that intended to show the movie "The Interview" or "The Interview."

The comedy presented a conspiracy for the killing of the North Korean leader.

If that was not enough for you, the hackers themselves were leaking Sony's emails, exposing the inequalities that exist in men's and women's earnings.

Sony hack changed the way we think about data breaches. The Sony attack was something different. He urged US President Barack Obama to issue an executive order that sanctioned North Korea for hacking orchestration. So we had the Internet blocked for a whole country for at least one day.

And that was just the beginning.

Then came her hack . Starting in July, the “Impact Team,” hacked the website and obtained confidential data from the dating site. The hackers threatened to publish the details of more than 30 million users unless the company was shut down.

Initially, Ashley Madison tried to assure users that their credit card details had not been stolen. The company had a legal obligation to make this announcement, underlining the absurdity of the situation.

Nobody cared about credit cards! Marriage, fame, jobs and generally the whole life of the victims were much more important than money. Some of them even paid Ashley Madison an amount to completely delete their information, but the company never did.

Ultimately, Ashley Madison refused to give in to the hacking group's demands. So the hackers published all the data .

The result for Ashley Madison users was devastating. Two suicides are linked to the data breach, and the people named in the data leaked from the hack are still being blackmailed.

This particular hack proved to us that there are much worse than credit card leakage. Money is not the only incentive for hackers.

In June, another hack was announced. This time, the victim was the US government that let loose a few million Social Security numbers.

By the end of July 2015, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) had been breached twice, exposing the Social Security numbers of more than 21 million Americans.

Together with the numbers, too much personal information, along with millions of fingerprints, was also leaked.

Politicians pointed China as a source of hack, and OPM director Katherine Archuleta resigned. There have been many charges against the government on behalf of federal officials.

But there is also continuity!

Many times you have read by security experts suggesting you to use a different login code on each website. Of course, this has a lot of work, and requires some application that can remember more data than you.

Hmmm….LastPass

In June, one of these password management services, called LastPass, was hacked by hackers.

Fortunately, the damage caused by LastPass hackers was minimal in relation to those caused by the attacks on Sony, Ashley Madison and the federal government.

Hackers managed to get the LastPass account holder names, the password suggestion, and a coded text that represented that code.

The post-message? If a company that is dedicated to security can be hacked, nothing is safe!
Confirmation; Hacking in the Hacking Team.Hacking Team 2

The Italian Hacking Team spyware and hacking developer and distributor - especially in law enforcement and government agencies in general - was violated in September. The spyware and malware provider in government agencies was hacked by hackers who acquired almost all of the company's data.

Even hackers can become hacked.

This reported hack could fly under your radar.

In the summer that passed, Bloomberg News reported that anonymous sources from United Airlines revealed a data breach. Among the items allegedly leaked were flight manifests, which could provide a record of the company's customer movements.airbus 1

United never confirmed the hack and refused to give any information about this story. The articles that appeared then reported that the information does not include credit card numbers or any other type of data that would legally oblige the company to declare hack.

2015 is a good introduction to what 2016 will follow. In the above review of the year we did not mention the successful hacking attempts in cars, refrigerators, TVs, mobile tablets and more.

The digital world is changing rapidly, knowledge is no longer a privilege of a few, and let's not forget the luck factor. Companies may be at risk from a scipt kiddie, who just fell into a security gap that IT did not see.

With regard to , at the end of 2015 hackers knocked on the door of Greek Banks. DDoS attacks have proven that outdated (or even non-existent) security techniques are not enough.
