Facebook stops using SHA-1 encryption

Facebook has just announced that it will stop the SHA-1 encryption algorithm to encrypt its connections since October 1, 2015.SHA-1

The social network made the following announcement:

These changes are part of a wider change in the way browsers and web pages encrypt traffic to protect the contents of Internet communications.

Ο SHA-1 was one of the most widely used algorithms on the Web, but it was less secure than we previously thought according to a report by the CA / Browser Forum 2011 on the basic requirements of SSLBaseline Requirements for SSL).

The report recommends that certification authorities leave the SHA-1 algorithm and use SHA-2 certificates.

The already started the process of change since 2014 and now it seems that Facebook will follow.

Facebook already prompts developers who develop to run on the social network or devices, use the SHA-2 encryption standard.
