Google Chrome will protect selected users from dangerous downloads with the help of Advanced Protection Program or simply APP, which was originally launched by 2017.
AAP's goal was to provide users, who had a high chance of becoming targets attacks in cyberspace, such as journalists, activists and politicians, the necessary arsenal to stay protected during access in their Google accounts.
But if you look at how threats are evolving, 2017 seems to be a long way off. So Google is now expanding its program to include Google Chrome, stopping malicious downloads that could be used in complex cyber attacks.
“Οι χρήστες Προχωρημένου Προγράμματος Προστασίας (Advanced Protection Program) που έχουν ενεργοποιήσει τον συγχρονισμό στο Chrome θα αρχίσουν να έχουν αυτόματα ισχυρότερες προστασίες κατά των επικίνδυνων λήψεων στον ιστό, για τα αρχεία που περιέχουν κακόβουλο λογισμικό. Οι χρήστες της Προηγμένης Προστασίας έχουν επωφεληθεί ήδη με την προστασία από κακόβουλο λογισμικό στις υπηρεσίες security of Gmail,” they said Shuvo Chatterjee, Product Manager, APP, and Kiran Nair, Product Manager, Chrome.
But the attackers have shifted their strategies to continue threatening Advanced Protection users, from emails to drive-by downloads, to unknowingly download harmful software to their devices.
The users who will be using it program they will start seeing a warning (shown in the image above) that a certain download is “blocked by Advanced Protection.
There will then be options to decline the download or keep the file, with a “Learn more” message showing additional information for the reasons why the download was blocked.
The new service does not require a user-friendly change, as the feature is automatically activated regardless of the platform on which Google Chrome is running.
On the other hand, what you need to do is enable browser synchronization to allow the Advanced Protection System to perform checks and block malicious downloads.
