Google has released the 77 (Chrome 77) version of the Google Chrome browser for Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iOS users.
The new version includes an improved UI that removes the indicator for EV certificates (extended validation or extended validation) from the browser address bar.
Google considers the EV indicators to be of no use to the security and authenticity of the websites and has removed them from the new version. Many security researchers have agreed with Google's decision.
The information from EV will still be available, but will not be displayed to users in the URL bar.
The new Chrome 77 includes many new features that will help developers measure the performance of their web pages. The most useful of these is a new measurement called "Largest Contentful Paint". The new feature is available in the Developer Tools section of Chrome.
Developers can use the new tool to count the time it takes Chrome to load a readable version of a site while the rest of the site is still loading.
Another news feature that comes with Chrome 77 will allow system administrators to impose settings on Chrome browsers running within a business.
Chrome 77 brings a new policy called "BrowserGuestModeEnforced".
“If this policy is enabled, Google Chrome will prevent it connection on a profile," Google says. "Only Guest logins will be allowed, and all windows will be in incognito mode."
