Windows 10 is known to run as a service (Windows as a Service) a model according to which your device will be frequently updated with fixes, improvements and new features.
Microsoft has therefore released a new compatibility update for devices that are not ready to receive the latest upgrade.
Microsoft is gradually releasing Windows 10 October 2020 Update and plans to release another feature update in 2021. As you probably know, every time a new Windows 10 update is ready (it happens twice a year) Microsoft makes a compatibility update available to the public.
So yesterday, Microsoft started releasing KB4023057 to users who are in the 2004 version. Only a few users are currently viewing it, but it will appear in the coming weeks or months.
An update in the update support doc, Microsoft says that with this update it will try to prepare your device and check its compatibility with Windows 10 updates. For example, it will try to free up your disk space by cleaning up your temporary archives if you do not have enough disk space.
Microsoft will add extra files and resources to your Windows 10 installation to “make sure updates are installed” smoothly on your device. In addition, the update KB4023057 for version 2004 will improve device reliability and security.
The following is a list of changes:
- Automatically resets network settings if problems are detected.
- Restores it register of Windows: All keys that may be preventing the installation of updates will be cleaned.
- Disable, repair, or modify Windows components that are responsible for Windows Update.
- Compress files in your profile directory.
- Restore the Windows Update database.
Microsoft has confirmed that the update respects Windows Update settings such as active hours. It also states that it may delete the Windows Update history if it attempts to repair Windows Update components.
