Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey sold his first tweet for $ 2,9 million.
Jack Dorsey donated the proceeds from the tweet made 15 years ago to the charity GiveDirectly's Africa.
The tweet, which reads "just setting up my twttr", was purchased as a non-fungible token (NFT), and paid for with ether.
"This is not just a tweet! "I think years later people will realize the true value of this tweet, like Mona Lisa painting." Reported the author of the tweet.
NFTs are used to verify unique data. The blockchain-generated certificate of authenticity is used for digital art data, or in this case, for a tweet.
The Kings of Leon band earlier this month released their latest album as NFT, while actor John Cleese also tried his luck in the world of digital art by selling a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge he made on his iPad.
Nicknamed "The Unnamed Artist", a Monty Python actor has a work of art priced at $ 69.346.250,50. THE current highest bid for Brooklyn Bridge is about $ 33.000.
"Hello! It's time to meet my alter ego 'Unnamed Artist'. I am happy to offer you the opportunity of a lifetime. I am selling my 1st NFT. Although the offer starts at 100.00, you can "BUY NOW" for 69.346.250.50! Says Cleese in a tweet.
The auction closes in 10 days.
