The founder of the website 4chan, Christopher Poole, also known as "moot" confirmed a few hours ago with a blog post that the popular website was hacked.
The attacker managed to gain access to the website's admin panel and from there managed to obtain a base his data 4chan exploiting a software vulnerability.
His motivation for her attack, was given to the hacker when he read a moot post and didn't like it. It is believed that the software vulnerability allowed the attacker to gain access not only to the site's moderator panels but also to some tables in the 4chan database.
According to the publication on their blog the way the hacker managed to extract the information from the database is known on 4chan, since there are traces of it in the "details archives registration" of the website. According to the 4chan post, the hacker had access to moderator accounts which he obtained mainly by targeting their credentials.
The founder of 4chan assured them users of the website that their financial information stored in the site's databases was not affected by the attack.
