Η LG Electronics (LG) continues to raise the level of the car connectivity market following the recent agreement to provide 5G telematics solutions to a premium European car industry.
Already a well-established player in telematics, a field that combines many disciplines such as telecommunications and spare parts technology, LG Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) has proven that it has the expertise and experience to lead the automotive industry in era of 5G technology.
According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, by 2026 approximately 67 million new vehicles worldwide will be equipped with telematics capabilities. The 5G technology telecommunication modules introduced just last year are expected to account for more than 25 percent of the total telematics vehicle market by 2026. With its highly sophisticated and large-scale technologies, LG has already secured a competitive edge in 5G standards, representing about 10 percent of global approvals for 5G patents and the second largest overall in the world.
From vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology to built-in hardware, software and in-vehicle communication gateways, LG's cutting-edge telematics technologies offer a new level of connectivity and road safety. An essential element of autonomous vehicles, V5X technology allows them to communicate in real time with other vehicles, pedestrians and infrastructure, creating a safer environment for everyone.
Quickly approaching the level 4 of the Society of Autonomous Engineer (SAE) level, in which autonomous vehicles no longer require human interaction to operate, LG 5G-V2X technology offers more stable vehicle data transmission speeds.
Faster, more stable communication means vehicles can recognize and respond to a variety of road conditions and instantaneous driving situations, while high-precision positioning technology, known as the Advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), can pinpoint the exact location. of a vehicle within 40 cm, even when traveling at high speeds.
Using Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) technology, LG solutions support both connected car and autonomous driving functions, allowing in-vehicle passengers to enjoy entertainment services, useful features and increased safety.
The standard of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 16 5G technology has significantly improved performance and more reliable connections. In addition, the smart, flat antenna allows automakers to maintain the aerodynamic lines of their original designs, something that would be impossible with traditional shark fin antennas.
"Thanks to our experience and know-how in vehicle telematics, LG has been able to win a number of new contracts with renowned global automakers," said Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG Vehicle Component Solutions.
"With solutions that are extremely easy to apply to various vehicle models thanks to our built-in modular design, LG telematics hardware and software systems offer an unparalleled level of flexibility for manufacturers and a variety of services for end users. A trusted partner of automakers around the world, LG is helping to create a safer, better future on the road with a growing portfolio of advanced mobility innovations.
