Computer users report the malware security risks as the leading cause of not using any illegal software. Among their concerns are hacker intrusions and data loss. However, the 62% of software installed on personal computers in Greece 2013 did not have the proper license.
These and other findings are published worldwide research BSA software programs emphasize the need for effective software management practices, especially in business.
The survey is conducted every two years for BSA from IDC, which this year targeted computer users in 34 markets, including approximately 22.000 home and business PC users and more than 2.000 IT executives.
Among the findings are:
-The percentage of PC software installed without the proper licensing in Greece was 62% 2013, marginally increased by 1% relative to 2011. The commercial value of this illegal software amounts to 220 million dollars.
-The main reason why computer users around the world choose not to use illegal software is to avoid security threats from malware. Among the risks associated with illegal software, 64% of users cite unauthorized access by hackers as a major concern and 59% cite data loss.
-Only 35% of companies worldwide have a clear policy that requires the use of properly licensed software.
