Apple according to the latter information, is switching chipmakers, leaving Samsung and TSMC, according to Amkor Technology and STATS ChipPAC.
It can be hard to believe that Apple will no longer rely on Samsung for their construction A-series chips, but this move has been predicted by analysts for some time.
So neither Samsung nor the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), has received orders for the 8 chip intended to use 2014 in the new iPhone 6.
This is at least mentioned by DigiTimes.
According to anonymous sources, Amkor Technology and STATS ChipPAC each have 40% of Apple's total orders for the next-generation A8 processor, while the remaining 20% should be manufactured by Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE).
As you will notice, we report three chips makers who will build Apple's orders, and none of them are the current A7-chip vendor.
And while Samsung appears to have been totally rejected, TSMC remains on the ship as a backup provider, according to sources.
However, TSMC will begin mass production of the A8 chip using it technology 20nm in the second quarter of this year, the publication adds.
