In some product categories, foreign e-shops are cheaper, by a percentage of 17% to 78%, compared to domestic e-shops. Because of the price, Greeks turn to international online stores in Russia, China, Germany and Great Britain.
According to data collected by PayPal, Greeks buying from the US can buy electronic products cheaper up to 37% compared to Greek stores, games and games up to 52% cheaper, as well as cosmetics 30% cheaper and clothes around 50% cheaper.
In Germany, games and games are 40% cheaper than Greek stores, clothes up to 25% cheaper, while online products and cosmetics are sold at prices from 17% to 31% lower than in Greek.
Great Britain offers correspondingly competitive prices for clothing, almost 50% below prices in Greek online stores and big discounts also in cosmetics (-24%), games and games (-35%) and in (-24%), while in China buyers can make the most profitable purchases in games (up to -78%) and in clothing (44%).
According to the relevant data, the payments made via PayPal by Greeks users were directed during the period 2012-2013 mainly to stores in Russia, China, Germany and Great Britain. The biggest increase was to Russian stores, which saw a 68% increase compared to the previous year, with Russia becoming one of the most popular online shopping destinations for Greeks and now ranking ahead of the US and China. Greeks' purchases in Chinese online stores increased by 44%. Significant growth was noted through PayPal from Greek users and to German stores, of the order of 18%.
LOWEST PRICES IN ELECTRONICS
According to analysis of PayPal, which provides online payment services via mobile devices and in stores, electronic products are always among the first preferences of Greeks who buy online.
With regard to new technology products, Greeks are still searching for iPad Air WiFi and can order it from the US (at no extra cost) compared to about 30% lower than that available in Greek stores.
The company urges Greek consumers to research US, British and Asian camera markets, as a Sony Alpha A58, for example, costs 120 euros less, or about 370 euros instead of 495 euros.
With regard to gaming consoles, a search in the US online market may also be beneficial as the Sony Playstation 4 500 GB is available around 100 Euros below the price sold in Greece (about 400 Euros).
As for other product categories, quite attractive price differences are observed in clothes, when one decides to buy abroad. For example, a couple Shoes Lacoste Rayfords can be bought in the UK for 85 euros compared to 125 euros in Greek online stores. Accordingly, a classic Levis 501 costs 18 euros less in Germany and 10 euros less in China, while its price in the US is half of its price in Greece.
