In the acquisition of the satellite companyς Skybox Imaging instead of 500 million dollars Google is moving ahead.
As stated in a Skybox Imaging announcement, "five years ago we began the journey to revolutionize access to information about the changes taking place on the surface of the Earth."
“We built and launched the smallest high-resolution imaging satellite analysiss, which collects beautiful and useful images and videos every day. We built an incredible team and empowered them to push state of the art imaging to new heights. The time is right to join forces with a company that can make us think even bigger and bolder and that can support us in our ambitious vision."
However, as noted in the announcement, the agreement is not completely "closed" yet, so in the short term, Skybox will continue as normal mode her.
According to Google, the company's satellites will provide images for its online map service while Skybox technology will also be used to provide Internet access and disaster response services.
It is recalled that in April Google had also acquired Titan Aerospace, a company active in the field of unmanned aircraft powered by solar power, while her design for balloon networks that provide wireless Internet access to remote areas is also known. Corresponding movements are carried out by the Facebook, as the big goal now seems to be the Internet coverage of cut off/developing areas.
