Η AMD announced that it will proceed with the creation of a new class of processors that will combine the characteristics of 64-bit x86 with ARM SoCs, as a result of the preletterof SkyBridge.
The program in question attempts to marry two different processor manufacturing architectures, allowing each of the different designs to be used on the same motherboards, with little or no changes.
The ultimate goal of the program is to better "prepare" the company for the new products that are going to make their appearance in the coming years. Additionally, AMD has suffered steady losses in recent years due to the continued downsizing of the processor market for classical processors. At the same time, Intel, its main competitor, is also falling short.
AMD to date has no presence in the mobile processor market and as it will continue to move primarily in traditional PCs and servers, plans through the SkyBridge program to gradually enter this part of the market as well.
In addition, the company announced that it also received the permission manufacture of ARM architecture processors, by the British company ARM, whose low-power processors are widely used in smartphones, tablets and in low-power servers.
