Atomic Wallet has reportedly been hacked and many users are reporting complete losses of their crypto portfolios.
Atomic is a decentralized wallet with no reservations, meaning users are responsible for the assets stored in the app.
“We have received reports of wallets being hacked. We are doing our best to investigate and analyze the situation. When we have more information, we will share it," the Atomic team said with a tweet on June 3.
Several users commented on the post reporting losses, claiming that their funds have disappeared from the app. On-chain sleuth ZachBTX — known for tracking down stolen funds and helping hacked projects — joins the investigation. As of this writing, it is unclear how the attack took place. Atomic claims to have over 5 million users.
Twitter users have also reported that they have had money stolen from the Atomic Wallet app in the past as well.
“This happened to my BTC 6 months ago with Atomic. They just replied that I need to protect my password and seed phrase, blah blah… I told them it is NOT possible! I was right!" one user wrote in response to the post.
The attack adds to a growing list of hacks happening every week. On May 28, the decentralized application (DeFi) Jimbos Protocol was hacked resulting in the loss of 4.000 Ether
Tornado Cash, a decentralized crypto mixer, was also recently hacked.
Malicious users stole an estimated $3,8 billion last year by exploiting DeFi protocols, according to a report by Chainalysis.
