The Facebook has 1,32 billion monthly users and 829 millions of users connected on a daily basis. The number of mobile users has also risen well. 1,07 billions of people control their profile on their mobile devices every month, while 654 millions do it daily.
While company reported last year that the average user spends about 17 minutes on the social network, a number that has more than doubled since the company's figures show it has reached 40 minutes.
Imagine what someone could do in 40 minutes on real his life..
Most worrying, however, is that the time of 40 minutes is the average time spent on Facebok, not the largest one. This means that there are too many people spending hours on Facebok.
While online socialization can have its advantages, especially considering how busy life is, it should not replace human interaction.
A study held by Larry Rosen, professor of psychology at California State University, έδειξε η σπατάλη του χρόνου στο Facebοok και σε άλλα εναλλακτικά social media μπορεί να επηρεάσει αρνητικά την υγεία των παιδιών, και των έφηβων. Τους καθιστά πιο επιρρεπείς στο άγχος, την κατάθλιψη και άλλες διαταραχές. Επιπλέον, επηρεάζει και την βαθμολογία τους.
Young adults who spend a lot of time on Facebok have a reduced sense of well-being and satisfaction from their lives.
“Facebook appears to provide an invaluable source of information for fulfilling the basic human need for sociality connection. Despite enhancing well-being, however, these findings suggest that Facebook may undermine well-being," reveals another study conducted by the University of Michigan.
As everything looks, things will probably get worse next time as Facebook plans to bring changes to attract more users and increase their time on the site.
Are we spending a lot of time on Facebook or is this the new "normal" way of life? This is probably something that each of us should decide for himself.
