Microsoft has started working with it OpenAI, adding ChatGPT to Bing Search. Bing's new addition, although limited to ChatGPT Plus users, allowed the chatbot to access thenetwork and get the latest ones information for various issues. This was done in conjunction with Bing AI which was announced in February and is available to Bing users.
However, it appears that ChatGPT Plus users are taking advantage of the integration to bypass them paywalls to get free access to locked data and articles. This was first spotted by r/ChatGPT users who reported that the chatbot allows them to access articles that are usually blocked by a paywall.
This was quickly spotted by the OpenAI team, which has ChatGPT now suspending Bing integration to prevent users from bypassing paywalls. The ChatGPT team confirmed the change on Twitter, noting that they are working on a fix for the problem.
OpenAI has also updated its FAQ page to reflect the change and states:
As of July 3, 2023, we've disabled Browsing with Bing beta while we fix it to make it right for content owners. We are working to bring the beta back as quickly as possible and appreciate your understanding!
The problem seems to be with ChatGPT and the way it processes data, as the Bing AI effort itself cannot bypass paywalls.
