The price of Bitcoin went up over 10.000 dollars for the first time since the beginning of 2018, a new milestone in the history of the virtual currency for 2019.
The price has tripled since last December that was around 3.200 dollars. This happened after a sharp descent when 19.500 had reached him December of 2017.
As always, it is difficult to tell what causes changes in the bitcoin value. But an obvious reason can be Facebook announcement for its own virtual currency, called Libra, earlier this weekteam.
Libra may be a bitcoin competitor, but its announcement brings added legitimacy to the overall encryption market.
Also, as the world's most valuable cryptocurrency, bitcoin is often used as a medium of exchangechanges among other cryptocurrencies – just as is the case with the US dollar used as a benchmark for global trade.
So, the release of the new digital currency by Facebook next year could boost the value of Bitcoin.
Bitcoin's rise is part of a broader explosions in crypto-currencies. Ether, the currency of the Ethereum network, is now worth more than $290, a record for 2019. Meanwhile digital currencies Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Monero, and Dash are all at their highest prices of 2019.
