BitTorrent Now: BitTorrent seems to be preparing to expand its cloud service portfolio with a multi-channel video transmission platform.
So the company today announced BitTorrent Now, a service streaming for ad-supported music and video. The new service will host content from content creators who sign up to the platform to distribute their work through BitTorrent Now.
The idea is that you'll be able to discover independent and major artists on the platform and watch their content for free on multiple Appliances. Except you'll have to put up with the ads. You'll also be able to pay for certain albums and videos to skip ads.
At launch of BitTorrent Now, Android, iOS and Apple TV applications will also be released.
It will be interesting to see if BitTorrent can attract enough artists to its platform and if it can sustain it for a long time space. The company says artists will earn 70 percent of the ad revenue on their videos. Those who choose to put their work behind paygates will earn 90% of content sales.
BitTorrent has the technology to make this project a reality. The hard part is creating a brand name that will have very good quality exclusive content and can attract a lot of people users because they can't find it elsewhere.
