A passenger aircraft lost a fuselage window in the air, and carried out forced landing in the US state of Oregon on Friday. Its Boeing 737 Max 9 Airlines was returning to Portland 35 minutes into his flight to California when the window went out.

Alaska Airlines said the plane had 177 passengers and crew on board and that it "landed with ".boeing

The airline announced it would "temporarily" ground all 65 of its 737 Max 9 aircraft to carry out inspections.

Boeing, on the other hand, said it was aware of the incident and "is trying to gather more information."

The UK Civil Aviation Authority told the BBC it was "monitoring the situation very closely".

Announcing the retirement of the 65 planes, Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci said: "Each aircraft will be returned to service only after maintenance and safety inspections have been completed."

Mr Minicucci praised the efforts of the six crew members on the flight, which had reached 16.000 feet (4.876 meters) when it began its emergency descent, according to flight tracking data.

The Boeing 737 Max has been described as "the most heavily tested transport aircraft in history" after a series of safety issues.

The Max were first withdrawn in March 2019 for a year and a half, after two aircraft of the same type crashed under similar conditions, killing all on board.

To fly again, each Max plane underwent significant modifications, although the changes will not be visible.

Boeing recently said it would increase the pace of 737 Max deliveries after resolving a who forced her to conduct long-term s in the new planes, as the agency reported .

About 1.300 737 Max jets have been delivered to customers, according to Boeing data.
