Let's talk about some well-known brand names. The name of a thing confers certain characteristics. But there are certainly characteristics which it is impossible to render. In the world of brands and big business, a Company's names should embody something personal as well as trustworthy. Or at least offer some relative value over other options. Why is Nike (originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports) called Nike? From the name of the goddess who personified victory. It sounds like a lot better than Blue Ribbon Sports, right?
So let's take a look at brand names in some of the biggest technology brands. Really how they got their names.
Samsung
This is a pretty straight forward one. The word Samsung means “three” in Korean αστέριa" and was chosen to represent the adjectives are "great, numerous and powerful."
Samsung's first products included dried fish, vegetables, pasta and fruit, although apparently later it tried to diversify its activities across a wide range of different industries. Today, it is best known for smartphones and other consumer electronic products. Over time, Samsung has entered aerospace, insurance and financial industries, among others.
Between 1938 and 1993, each Samsung logo featured three stars in different styles. From 1993, Samsung uses the current logo.
Nokia
Nokia is well known in the electronics market. In 1865, a wood pulping mill was opened at Tammerkoski Rapids in Finland. In 1868, in search of stronger water flow, the company opened another mill a few miles from the town of Nokia on the Nokianvirta River, from which the company took its name in 1871. Clearly, there was no rush to establish the brandname in the late 19th century.

GoldStar's sister company was Lak-Hui (pronounced "Lucky"), hence the name "Lucky Goldstar."
HTC
Most people think that the HTC name comes from the original High-Tech Computer, but that's not the case.
1997, when the company was founded by Http. Cho (current chairman) and Cher Wang (current chairman). So they decided to use their initials to form a name - and hence the HTC name was born.

Spotify, originally started in Sweden, although the word Spotify does not seem to mean anything in Swedish.
The founders of Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon sat one day trying to think of a name, and when one of the suggestions heard was "Spotify" they liked it. When the twin realized that there were no Google results for the word and that the domains were available, they simply grabbed the opportunity.
Sony
The roots of Sony are a mixture of Latin and English slang. More specifically, this is a version of "Sonus," which sounds like "Sonny," and means a good young man.
However, this was not the original name. Founded in 1946 under the name Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo KK, or simply Totsuko. The brand change came in the 1950 decade when the company started to have globalization ambitions, and the TTK trademark belonged to another company. With the combination of Sonus and Sonny, Sony came.
Amazon
Amazon was close to being called Cadabra, from "abracadabra" because Bezos wanted a websiteσελίδα book sales to be so fast it will seem like magic.

According to their own explanation, the company was so named because it "embodies the power, purity, and adventurous spirit of this imaginary creature, and reaches new heights with every new product it creates."
Lenovo
The founders of Lenovo 1984 agreed that the company should be named Chinese Academy of Sciences New Technology Development Company, according to Lenovo Affair by Zhijun Ling.
Eventually, the team named it Legend, a name that lasted for almost two decades, until 2003. It has since been called Lenovo.
The name comes from the Latin Le and Novo and means new.
Skype or Whatsapp
2003, Skype was another company that didn't find the name the brand wanted to really use.
Skype is a simple combination of Sky with the term peer-to-peer, which originally became Skyper, and then, if the name was not available, became Skype. At least, according to a former Skype employee Andreas Sjölund.
