Canonical (again) new ISO for Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

Canonical has been released from scratch the ISOs of Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS today because of a to the which could make OEM installations unbootable.

A few days ago, the company informed Twitter users that the recently released Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (Focal Fossa) ISOs were affected by an error causing the new OEM facility to fail to boot through Ubiquity.

Kernel is responsible for the problem. The operating Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS comes with updated cores and graphics stacks supported by the latest Ubuntu 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla) series.

So, this point release of the Focal Fossa version runs with the Linux 5.8 kernel and the Mesa 20.3 graphics stack.

According to error registration in Launchpad, only certain machines are affected and it happens when networking was enabled, which means that if you did an offline installation, everything will be fine.

"Shortly after the release of Ubuntu 20.04.2, on Thursday, February 4, 2021, an error was discovered which means that on some systems and under certain conditions, the Ubuntu installer may fail to install a Linux kernel. "This makes the system impossible to start," says Canonical.

This is another example of why Canonical needs to upgrade the Ubiquity installer to Ubuntu Desktop ISO.

For all of the above, Canonical has released new ones ISO for Ubuntu Desktop and all official flavors (Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Kylin).

Lubuntu is not affected by these issues as well Calamares as installer.

Existing users are not affected by this issue.
