CERN Interactive Exhibition at the Planetarium

An impressive interactive who created it CERN aiming to bring the general public closer to the experiments of the great underground accelerator will host the Eugenides Foundation from 12 April to 31 May.

CERN

The exhibition for adults and children over ten years of age entitled "Accelerating Science" created by the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the of the Dudley Wright Foundation, has already been presented in many European countries, stimulating the interest of thousands of young and old visitors to the mysteries of nature.

The exhibition brings to Greece the Eugenides Foundation and the Greek-German Education, in collaboration with the Physics Department of the National Technical University of Athens, the Nuclear Physics and Elementary Particles Division of the University of Athens, the Institute of Acceleration Systems and Applications and the Association of Greek Physicists.

The report presents in a simple way what exactly is being done in CERN's underground facilities, the most important international research center in elementary particle physics. It also presents in a comprehensible way the fundamental scientific knowledge about the basic structural components of matter and the evolution of the universe, focusing on the key contribution of CERN and its experiments.

Interactive touch screens and a promise to gain the interest of young people. At the same time, scientists from different disciplines, together with specially trained undergraduate and postgraduate students, will undertake to introduce visitors to the secrets of CERN.

Admission is free of charge (with strict priority order) and the analytical schedule for the general public is as follows:

- Saturday 12 April to Good Thursday 17 April, 11 hours: 00- 17: 00.

- From Good Friday 18 until Easter Monday 21 April the exhibition will remain closed.

- Tuesday 22 to April 27 April, 11: 00- 21: 00 opening hours.

- From 30 April to 31 May: Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 17: 00- 21.00 (public holidays excluded), and every Saturday and Sunday hours 11: 00- 21: late (00).

Also the organizers have designed different educational programs for school groups The school groups of the last two grades of the Primary School and of all grades of the High School and the Lyceum will be admitted with free admission in the mornings from Monday to Friday and only upon early booking by telephones 210 9469631- 632 (contact hours: Monday to Friday 09: 00-14: 00).

Parallel training program

In addition to the exhibition, a specially designed training program will be carried out, which will also be hosted by the Eugenides Foundation and addressed to primary and secondary school teachers (positive direction). It will focus on Science Education, aiming at presenting applications and proposals that can make the visit to the CERN exhibition or virtual visit more effective by integrating it into the educational process.

The program was designed by a team of scientists and teachers of the Department of Research and Development of Greek-German Education and the Department of Physics of the University of Athens and will last two hours and includes two modules:

- The Training Lab "The Experiment of the Century in the School Lab" to be held on 29 / 4, 5 / 5, 12 / 5 and 20 / 5, 15 hours: 00- 17: 00.

- The training workshop "From quarks to the Universe with virtual and remote labs: Connecting the great ideas of science" to be held at 13 / 5 and 27 / 5, 15 hours: 00- 17: 00.

Participation in the training program is free of charge, but it is necessary to book a place at 210 9469631-632 (Monday to Thursday: 8.30-20.00, Friday and Saturday: 8.30-15.30). All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Greece and CERN

Greece is a founding member of CERN by 1958. Scientists from the country have participated with a great deal in many older experiments at CERN, such as DELPHI, ALEPH and others. Today large teams of researchers from Greek universities and research centers participate by contributing significantly to the ATLAS, CMS and ALICE experiments.

During this period the accelerator has stopped operating for maintenance and upgrading purposes. He will return to his "job" within 2015.
