As announced today OpenDNS will be company of Cisco, for $635 million, payable in cash.
OpenDNS is a private security company in San Francisco that offers phishing and content filtering options with its own Domain Name System (DNS).
Cisco on the other hand, is a company that plans and supplies latest technology equipment networking, and cloud security solutions. It will thus benefit from OpenDNS's cloud platform, which is accessible to more than 65 million users on a daily basis.
Commenting on the takeover in a post at blog today, Hilton Romanski, senior vice president and head of Cisco's business development, said he would allow his company to provide better protection against threats to network entry points that are not tracked and potentially unsafe.
By combining security solutions from two Companies, customers will benefit from improved protection for all stages (before, during and after) of an attack on their network.
“OpenDNS has a strong team with deep security expertise that complements Cisco's security vision. Together, we will help our customers protect and expand their network," he added.
The OpenDNS team will be part of the Cisco Security Business Group, headed by David Goeckeler, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.
If all the conditions are met, the acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of fiscal year 2016.
