Cosmic Cuttlefish is the official name of Ubuntu 18.10

Cosmic Cuttlefish or cosmic cuttlefish: A few days after official release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), Canonical's Mark Shuttleworth revealed the codename of its upcoming release 18.10. The name follows the Ubuntu name tradition of “whatever.”

We already knew about a week ago, that the first ISOs appeared on the main ones of the distribution, but we didn't know the codename: Ubuntu 18.10 will be called “Cosmic Cuttlefish” or cosmic cuttlefish(!?).Cosmic Cuttlefish

“After the beaver..., it's time to turn her us on our way to 20.04 LTS” …”we will begin this journey with Cosmic Cuttlefish, soon to be known as Ubuntu 18.10,” Mark Shuttleworth announced in a post on blog staff.

According to Mark Shuttleworth, Ubuntu 18.10 will focus more on the overall security of the operating system, and intends to raise the bar much higher.

In addition to ongoing security enhancements, Ubuntu 18.10 will default to several new innovative features, such as the default GNOME 3.30 desktop environment, a new system theme called comunitheme, and all the latest GNU / Linux technologies such as GCC, Linux kernel, systemd, Wayland, X.Org Server, Mesa Graphics Stack, and more.

However, Ubuntu 18.10 will be a trial version of future LTS (Long Term Support) versions, which means it will only be backed up with security updates and software for nine months.

The development started and Ubuntu 18.10 is expected to be released in October of 2018.
