The British government finally decriminalized piracy downloading παιχνιδιών, μουσικής και ταινιών, μια movement supported by Creative Content UK.
According to decision, starting in 2015, those found to be downloading illegal content from the Internet will receive up to four warning letters, explaining that their actions are illegal. However, if the prealerts are ignored, nothing at all will happen.
Creative Content UK is the result of a cooperationbetween UK ISPs, politicians and companies from the film and music industry. Major operators including BT, Virgin, Sky, and TalkTalk have already signed up to the deal, with the rest expected to join soon.
The government pledged to fund the program with 3.500.000 £ which is essentially a piracy awareness campaign.
Basically, the Creative Content of the UK consists of two strands. One of these is the alert system that will handle the letters sent to the subscribers, as mentioned above, while the second part concerns an awareness-raising campaign led by content creators. Its purpose is to combat online copyright infringement through education.
The rationale is that consumer information on intellectual property issues will help shape a future generation of internet users who respect the regulations.
Creative Content UK was founded by the Motion Picture Association, the British Record Industry, as well as BT, Sky Broadband, TalkTalk and Virgin Media which are internet service companies. The move is also backed by the BBC, Equity, Pact the Premier League, UK Music and others.
