The Pearson VUE he said a Credential Manager System data breach, a certification tracking program used by companies such as: Cisco, F5, IBM, \ Microsoft and Oracle, to issue diplomas and formal certifications for various professionals.
According to its official announcement companys, the data breach occurred through a malware implanted on its servers by unauthorized third parties. This malicious software enabled third parties to obtain access to sensitive data.
Pearson VUE stated that only Credential Manager System was affected by this particular incident.
"Because the Credential Manager System is specifically designed to meet specific customer requirements, we strive to understand how the issue can affect each of our customers." said Pearson's spokeswoman.
While it will take some time to assess the actual damage for each customer, the company was quick to say that no other sensitive information such as credit card numbers and social security numbers.
To prevent further malicious moves, the company turned off the Credential Manager System application and announced the incident to the appropriate authorities.
Business certification systems affected will remain inactive until Pearson states that it is safe to restart the service.
