The long-awaited functional system Debian GNU/Linux 9 Stretch has a release date as of today, as one of the team members announced that the stable distribution will be released on June 17, 2017.
So great news for fans of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, as they will be able to upgrade their Debian GNU/Linux 8 Jessie installations to the next major Stretch release, which will be pushed to the stable channel on Saturday, June 17, 2017, that is, three weeks from today.
Until then, the release team needs to fix bugs, various crashes and memory leaks, integrate all the latest security updates and address any upgrade issues from the Debian GNU/Linux 8 Jessie series, for a smoother transition to the upcoming new stable distribution.
“We plan to release the distribution 2017-06-17. If you want to celebrate, you can attend the Debian release party or host your own! See at https://wiki.debian.org/ReleasePartyStretch for more information, "Niels Thykier told mail communication, which you can get if you are involved in the development process.
Debian GNU/Linux 9 Stretch will include some of the latest GNU/Linux technologies and open source applications code. The distro is powered by the long-supported Linux 4.9 kernel series and will offer users updated features such as GCC 6.3.0, X.Org Server 1.19.2, Mesa 13.0.6 and systemd 232.
It also appears to include some new tools that appeal to people who are interested in digital forensics.
