NSF presented a crystal clear video of the recent collapse of the famous Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.
The famous radio telescope of Arecibo is located near the city of the same name in Puerto Rico. It is essentially identical to the Arecibo Observatory, which is currently operated by company SRI International μετά από συμφωνία με το Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Επιστήμης (National Science Foundation) των ΗΠΑ.
It is a gigantic structure with a diameter of 305 meters, and its mission for 57 years was to explore extraterrestrial bodies, such as asteroids, that could threaten the Earth. Because of its impressive appearances, this radio telescope has been featured in motion pictures and television productions.
The radio telescope was damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017. Two cables broke, one in August 2020 and another in November 2020, when it was announced that the radio telescope was decommissioned and gradually dismantled as its repair was deemed unprofitable and financially unprofitable.
The result was that it collapsed on December 1, 2020. The news wasn't all that shocking until NSF released the video of the collapse, which is crystal clear, captured by several surveillance cameras and with analysis low frame rate.
As you will see from the impressive video, the remaining cables started to collapse gradually and finally the whole construction fell into the plate. Fortunately, no one was injured.
