With the release of Windows 7, Microsoft released a new theme format, the themepack. It was created so that all the resources of a topic are packed into one archive, making using themes much easier.
In Windows 8, the file format was updated and became a deskthemepack. Windows 10 supports both theme packages. Technically, the themepack and the deskthemepack are usually ZIP or CAB files that contain images but also the corresponding * .theme text files that have all the names of the images in the theme recorded.
Those interested can export the images directly from such files by right-clicking export. This may be useful for Windows 7 users, as the older operating system does not support * .deskthemepack * files.
An alternative to Windows 7 is the free application Deskthemepack Installer, an application that allows you to install Windows 10 and Windows 8 themes on Windows 7 with one click. However you will not need this you can easily export the images.
