E-cigarettes are being marketed as a somewhat healthier alternative to smoking. According to a recent study, things are not exactly like that.
Evidence shows that, just like regular cigarettes, electronics cause damage to the lungs. In particular, scientists report that certain chemical compounds containing the liquid they use electronic cigarettes, affect the cells of the lung.
Speaking at a recent meeting of the American Thoracic Society International Conference, the researchers detailed how these chemical compounds can have adverse health effects.
In particular, fragrances added to the liquid of electronic cigarettes supposedly to make smoking experience more enjoyable are very dangerous.
Of the 13 samples tested in the survey, 5 was found to be potentially dangerous.
"In our study, we used human lung epithelial cells, and the number of cell viability showed that 5 of the 13 flavors tested had adverse effects on cells," said researcher Temperance Rowell. EurekAlert.
The side effects mentioned prevent the lung cells from working properly.
