Edward Snowden fairy tale of the San Bernadino iPhone

Speaking at his 'Blueprint for Democracy' conference Common Cause, Edward Snowden spoke about surveillance, personal freedoms and, of course, the San Bernadino iPhone.Edward Snowden

"The FBI says Apple has the 'exclusive technical means' to unlock the phone," said Edward Snowden. “Respectfully, that's bullshit.”

Edward Snowden posted a little later on twitter:

Το link θα σας οδηγήσει σε ένα απόσπασμα του Daniel Kahn Gillmor της Αμερικανικής Ένωσης Πολιτικών Ελευθεριών που αναλύει καλύτερα το αίτημα του FBI ότι απαιτεί συνδρομή της Apple για να παρακάμψει το χαρακτηριστικό της “αυτό-ς ”.

Gillmor is not the only one. IOS researcher researcher Jonathan Zdziarski published a snapshot last week that describes in detail the FBI mistakes in the San Bernadino case.

More specifically, changing the iCloud password that prevented the FBI from retrieving an unencrypted iCloud backup directly from Apple's servers.

In fact, security researchers have already suggested some other ways the FBI could violate the encrypted iPhone.

These methods are expensive, time consuming, and some could eventually lead to physical destruction of her memory s, but they could bring results. No alternatives were mentioned at a congressional hearing last week, when FBI Director James Comey argued that the FBI cannot access the data without Apple's help.

Apart from the expensive and dangerous hacks, the CIA is another alternative. Of course the CIA never talks about such talks, but it's the same service that has been trying to break Apple's devices for almost a decade.

San's iPhone it is a pretext as the big picture focus shifts to the public debates it created. It looks like the backdoor the FBI actually wants is new legislation, not the terrorist's iPhone.
